Amino acids are the building blocks that make up peptides and proteins. Link a short group together and you have a peptide. The National Human Genome Research Institute uses a typical range of two to fifty amino acids in its definition.
That gives you a picture of the structure. It does not tell you, by itself, what a particular peptide will do. Think of the name as the beginning of a question, rather than the answer.

You might meet the word on a skincare label, in a scientific paper, or in a conversation about a medicine. Those conversations need their own context. A familiar word does not make two products or two research findings interchangeable.
Start by finding the actual name. Then ask what was tested, in what setting, and for which outcome. This simple habit makes an unfamiliar topic easier to navigate.
